Import / export company employing 30 people with offices in Manchester and warehousing in Yorkshire
Problem
- Managers worried that staff could potentially have an accident or claim against the company as systems had developed over a number of years without control by management
- Neighbouring company had had a visit from the HSE and had advised this company of improvements
- Managers concerned safe systems not being adhered to
- Company expanding and more open to litigation that could affect business
- Identified new warehousing wanted systems to be correct and safe
- Potential customers – high street shops wanted documented evidence of safety awareness
Outcome
- Introduced a new safety management system so that it was accurate and tailored to the business requirements
- Company now fully aware of legal obligations, able to step by step improve systems, continually improving and educating / developing workforce
- Introduced safety meetings improved communications
